Queer Family Camp

This is the heart of Camp It Up! — it is what we were founded to do and remains at the center of our community. Since our first camp in 1990, this program has been the home for generations of families to connect and live into the fullness of our collective joy and care.

Location

Oakland Feather River Camp (OFRC) is on ancestral Maidu land in Plumas National Forest, near Quincy, California. It’s about 4.5 hours from the San Francisco Bay Area. OFRC is owned by the City of Oakland, CA and has been a regular location for CIU! for over three decades.

Program

Join us for 3, 6 or 9 nights. This is the first year CIU! Queer Family Camp will be integrated into OFRC Family Camp programming. In prior years, CIU! rented the space, running all programming, registration and logistics independently. Enjoy classic OFRC activities—archery, swimming, games, crafts—in an affirming space centering queer-led families and families with LGBTQIA+ children.

Rates and Registration

Registration for 2026 is now open here. Cost and registration are managed by OFRC and subsidized by the City of Oakland. There are several discounts available, along with campership opportunities. Please take a look at OFRC website and FAQ for more information.  If you have any questions, please reach out to Info@FeatherRiverCamp.com

Camperships

  • For Queer Family Week only, Camperships are available for both Oakland residents and non-Oakland residents thanks to ongoing support to the Camp It Up! Campership Fund. Please review the Campership Application Instructions.

  • Campership applications can be submitted as part of the camp registration process. If you have any questions, please reach out to Info@FeatherRiverCamp.com

Role of Camp It Up!

CIU! has shifted from running family camp completely independently to forming a partnership with OFRC — allowing us to play to our strengths for the best, most financially accessible camp possible for our families. At camp this year, we will be providing funds for Camperships, leading programming for grown-ups, and hosting evening programming for the whole family. We’ll also continue to host seasonal community events year around.

We receive no revenue from camp registration, are a volunteer run nonprofit, and depend entirely on generous community donations and grant funding. If you are able, please consider a tax-deductible donation to support CIU!’s mission here.
