Camp It Up! Staff
About the Director: Jill Rose
Jill, the director and co-founder of Camp It Up!, has been working in various camp settings since age thirteen (a very long time ago!). As a counselor, music specialist, Program Director, Director, Staff Trainer and consultant, she has become
familiar with every aspect of camp management. She co-founded Camp It Up! twenty years ago and has been the camp’s director since that time. She’s a co-founder of Camps In Common, a non-profit corporation that manages Feather River Camp for the
City of Oakland, California and currently serves on the Board for CIC. Jill has served as a consultant for other camps, including Camp Breathe Easy, a camp catering to children with moderate to high-risk asthma.
Her work with Camp It Up! is both a culmination and manifestation of her experience and commitment to non-urban camps as a source for individual, familial and communal healing and empowerment. As director of Camp It Up!, Ms. Rose has been
able to experience the thrill and gratification of knowing that it is possible to make a real, invaluable and permanent change in people’s lives. Whether it has been training teenagers to work with young children, enabling an individual to
attend and enjoy a week’s camping experience with his or her family for the first time, or encouraging a staff member to take on a new and challenging role, her work has been a source of challenge and healing, and has compelled her to continue
reaching out for other opportunities that “make a difference.” As a Music teacher in an Oakland public school, songwriter, community organizer and event producer, Jill has been fortunate to find many such opportunities in her life.
Ms. Rose has been a Bay Area resident since 1967 and lives in Oakland, California. When she has any extra time and money, she loves to travel; and when only time is available, she can be found playing piano and singing with friends, gardening
or playing a decidedly uncompetitive game of Scrabble.
Jill is mother to 22-year old Josh, and aunt to Jesse, 25; Aarin, 24; Zach, 23; Oren, 5 and Aviva, 4.

Camp Program Directors
Ben Szudy and Amanda “Mango” Lynch will be overseeing our programs for children and adults. Both Ben and Mango have grown up at camp and we are thrilled that they are still with us,
bringing their incredible talents, knowledge, enthusiasm and leadership abilities to the program planning and day-to-day operations at camp. Ben is our staff supervisor and Mango brings that special pizzazz to everything we do.
You and your children are in good hands!
Counselor-in-Training Program Directors
Josh Connor and Lisa Zeiler will be directing our CIT program this year. Josh started working at Camp It Up! at the age of twelve and has worked as a teacher and manager of teen programs as well.
Lisa Zeiler, musician and mother, managed our CIT program for a number of years and returns to us this year as Josh’s co-director. With these two very talented people at the helm, we look forward to an excellent and exciting CIT program this year.
Specialists and Camper-Teachers
Mo Wyse coordinates Camp’s Drama Program, including our end-of-the-week camp musical production, talent show, and works with each of the children’s groups throughout the week. We import her
from New York City just to be with us at camp each year!
Becca Pfeifer-Rosenblum — a longtime camper and staff member, has just returned from Cuba where she focused on honing her skills in Afro-Latin drumming.
She'll be bringing percussion activities to everyone at camp this summer.
Anne Moore — body worker par excellence and camp favorite — coordinates our Healing Arts Activities including individual massage, workshops and the Family Spa and Salon.
Karen Pfeifer runs our Specialty Crafts Programs, which include carpentry, mosaic tiling and more. She has been helping us learn how to use power tools and make beautiful and useful objects for our home for almost as
many years as we’ve been at camp.
Michelle Jacques and Alex Pfeifer-Rosenblum — both Bay Area recording artists — bring music to our campers, working with both childrens’ groups and adults. You can hear both of them
at pre-dinner serenades, campfire sing-alongs, singing with the camp band (there’s nothing like Michelle singing Mustang Sally — move over Aretha!) and working on the camp musical.
Camp Administrative Team
Anna Piller (annapiller@gmail.com) — our very own Fulbright scholar, international activist and author, chess player and Limbo expert —
works as our Administrative Coordinator and will be there to greet you with her unbelievably beautiful smile when you arrive!
Toni Fricke (toni@campitup.org) is our Financial Administrator. Please contact Toni with any questions about fees, deposits, balance due.
She keeps us in good financial order and we are grateful!
Alita Rosenfeld (alita@campitup.org) is our Database Administrator. Alita’s been keeping our mailing list for nearly all of our 18
years. Got a new family to add to our mailing list? Contact Alita.
Joan Lefkowitz (joan@campitup.org ) is Camp’s webmaster. Joan’s wizardry has added immeasurably to camp’s marketing. In addition to her
technical prowess, she is one of the funniest folks you’ll ever meet. Come introduce yourself to Joan at camp. Got feedback on our site? Email Joan.
ML Haynes (ml@campitup.org) is our Marketing Manager and is responsible for bringing us into the next century. At last, we are registering online
and saving countless trees by eliminating a good part of our paperwork process. ML is responsible as well for our logo, new “mini-brochures”, postcards and so much more. Got an idea for spreading the word about camp? Need some brochures for
friends? Contact ML.
