Camp It Up!
Activities
Activities are offered for everyone in the family. Some activities are for children only and some are for adults to enjoy, while their children are enjoying themselves (with their counselors) in the children's programs. Many activities are planned for the entire family. All activities are optional.
“Amp It Up! Vamp It Up! It’s Camp It Up! time
Got Seuss on the loose, got stories and rhyme
If fun is a family, then this must be heaven
Bring on the joy in Two thousand eleven”
This year, through playing with various Doctor Seuss tales, we plan to explore storytelling, rhyme and general
word silliness, and imagination. Picture Seussian characters making appearances throughout the week, telling
stories to groups of enchanted children, dramatic performances, rhyme relays and more.
Our drama specialists will work with adults and children in theme-related workshops and our visual creative
artists will involve the campers in creating magical figures to dazzle us in the center of camp. And what would
a Seussian theme be without an all-camp parade at the end of the week. So bring on your storytelling skills,
your magic with words, and your willingness to be creative and silly and jump into the fun.
We’re planning as well a number of workshops throughout the week geared for various ages in sustainable living and how to make activism a more natural part of our daily lives.
At the River
Swimming in beautiful Spanish Creek is one of the camp's most popular activities. There are swimming holes both in and just outside of the camp. At the camp beach, swimming is just right for younger children. A camp lifeguard is on duty at all times that the swimming hole is available for camper use:
most afternoons from 2:30 – 5pm and some afternoons from 1 – 5pm. A ten-minute walk (or three-minute ride) from camp leads you to a spectacular swimming hole with a very popular rope swing. Many campers spend a part of their afternoons at the swimming hole.
Arts and Crafts
What is camp without craft projects? Choose from tie-dye (T-shirts, halters, boxers, and bandanas), Fimo clay, lanyards, jewelry making, silk painting, watercolors, candle-making, pine needle baskets, raft and boat building and more.
Specialty Crafts
Choose from a variety of projects such as: carpentry (in past years we've made benches, boxes, bookshelves), mosaic tiling (mirrors, candle holders, flower pots) and scenery building. Some specialty crafts may require a nominal materials fee.
Sports and Games
Adults and children can enjoy softball, volleyball, basketball, Ping-Pong, tennis, horseshoes, water play on the lawn for toddlers and water games at the river.
Biking, Hiking and Nature Studies
Biking is a great way to get around camp and there are beautiful bike routes just outside the camp for both beginner and advanced bikers. There are nearby hiking trails as well as exceptional hiking possibilities just short drives from camp. Spectacular meadows and lakes can be reached on both short and all-day hikes.
Music, Dance and Theater
Children and adults can participate in the Camp musical revue, play with the Camp band and perform in the family talent show. Music and drama staff will lead daily activities (family improv, campfire sing-alongs and more). Our drumming program is a special treat.
Workshops for campers of all ages are scheduled throughout the week. Camp songs are the “Rainbow Song” and the “Family Song” and we’ll be teaching them at various times throughout the week.
Special Programs
Treasure hunts, stargazing, special events day, children's parade and carnival, ethnic/cultural/spiritual programming and more.
Evening Programs
Each evening will feature a special activity, including campfires, dances, family games including our brand new favorite — Disco Bingo!, the Camp musical revue and talent show. Overnights or "late-nights" are scheduled for the children one night during camp and special adult programs are planned for this time.
For the Body and Soul
Trained massage therapists are available by appointment throughout the week and sponsor our enormously popular Family Spa and Salon on Thursday afternoon.
Activities that defy categorization
You might want to dye your hair purple (two hair-coloring sessions are scheduled per week); participate in a family flotilla on the creek, our very popular "Wild String"ť (campers create a 40' diameter dream catcher), The House Beautiful Tour (move over, Martha Stewart) or any one of Camp It Up!'s incredibly creative and off-beat activities.
